I'm not sure what misinformation there is about the southside. Yes you can get a nice home for less money, true. However that is offset by the poor performing schools and that is the #1 thing that drives Fort Personnel away from Richmond County.
Also resale is a big issue for fort personnel as their tenure in the area is usually temporary. It is much harder to sell a home in Richmond County (particularly South Augusta) than neighboring Columbia County.
Then you have easier access to the base from Grovetown and the westside gates versus the one gate in South Augusta that has limited hours and is further from the main areas of base activity.

But the schools are really the biggest factor steering families to CC instead of RC and this map will show you why.
Virtually every public school in south Augusta is shaded red.. which is the poor performing category

The data in the map comes from Schooldigger which is a very popular site for comparing schools and is used frequently by relocating families.
NOt one school in CC is in the poorly performing category. Infact Grovetown High school, Columbia Middle, Baker Place Elem and Cedar Ridge Elem are in the the top 20% of public schools in the state. There is simply no comparision. Military personnel do their homework before even movoing to the area. They dont really need to be steered by anyone. The data speaks for itself. I would say it is a huge disservice to steer military personnel to an area with inferior schools by downplaying the situation in Richmond County. So I disagree that the fort is steering people away from South Augusta.. the inferior Richmond County school system is doing that.

Zillow also ranks The Columbia County school system an 8 out of 10 and Richmond County gets a 3 out of 10.
