I live in Sandersville, GA; about 60 miles west of Augusta and we are excluded from the Augusta media market, as in television. Most people I have talked to around here prefer to keep up with Augusta news, as we are a part of the CSRA, but we are stuck with the Macon media market. We shop, dine, work, and stay involved with the Augusta community, but we have to use internet sources for news from here. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea on why the media markets were split and why tv providers don’t offer the Augusta market to Washington County.
My guess is it was based upon over the air signals. Sandersville is 60-65 miles from the Augusta over the air tv towers and only 43 or so from the location of the Macon tv station towers in Jeffersonville in Twiggs County. Before cable and satellite tv, it was easier to get a tv signal from Macon, thus the city was in the Macon market. Just my hypothesis.
Thank you midgeorgiaman! I’m sure you hypothesis had something to do with it all!
