Street lights could be coming to the new River Watch Parkway expansion in Columbia County.

Commissioner Doug Duncan and Deputy County Administrator Matt Schlachter recently met with Georgia Power to get a quote on how much lighting the area would cost.

Schlachter says Georgia Power came back with three separate plans.

Now, the county is looking at which plan would be most cost effective while still providing safety to residents and drivers in that area.

The discussion is currently in it's early stages.

So Columbia county poorly plans for roads to handle all the growth...then when they finally address the road, they don't look into lighting it until AFTER it's finished?! So now that whole area has been a hot mess for years now while this expansion took place, and when they decide on their lighting plan it will be another hot mess for more time, AND they'll have to cut up the brand new road for utilities to power the lights. Genius.

Precisely why it is time for new leadership in Columbia County. The good-ole-boys have made a mess of things and cannot plan for growth. They just seem to react (belatedly) to everything instead of being 3 steps ahead.

Like the downtown they building it a need to with no place to park. Another thing all the buildings look the same. You can’t tell is it downtown their building are apartments complex or college. I think CC trying to out think everyone else but starting to look like fool meaning the leadership. If you going to build a downtown get someone can design different buildings. MAking a upscale area doesn’t mean keeping it old fashion and bore looking. Like the Mullins tried to with Mullins part 2 complex look a hot mess. Can’t be upscale with Diablo using one of the atoees

I don't have the slightest idea what the heck you were trying to say...

Mullins 2 'look a hot mess'? It looks quite nice, especially compared to phase 1. Diablo's does not make a place less 'upscale', whatever 'atoees' are...

How in the world did Joe Mullins and Diablo's get into a discussion about lights on Riverwatch?

stores

It may not make it less but definitely don’t make it upscale. I thought phase 2 was going to have different stores then Augusta area. Look like they only can land stores from here and the layout is horrible.

My guess? They decided not put the budget in for the lights when the project was being planned for fear that the voters would not approve of the project due to increased cost.
