Working in Augusta living in Thomson-How long is the commute?
Im planning a move from birmingham, alabama to georgia due to a promotion at work. The office will be in Augusta, but i dont mind a drive of about 45 minutes or less. How long is the commute from thomson to augusta. Do many people commute back and forth between the two? Is thomson located in augusta or a suburb of it. I would like to know where can i get a home in Thomson for 225-275k in a nice area with 3+ bedrooms?
Any other information would be great! thanks in advance!

Thomson is really not a suburb of Augusta.. it's far enough away to have it's own identity. It's actually a very charming small town.. has sort of a Mayberry feel. The main drag leading to I20 has most of the typical chain restaurants you will find elsewhere. Thomson is about 30 miles from Augusta, all by interstate. you could easily make the drive in about 35 minutes.. but with all of the construction occurring on I20, it could be longer.

Yeah the normal commute should be about 35 mins to 40 from thomson to augusta. But construction on I-20 which is only going to get worse. Is going all the way from columbia county to wilkes. Mcduffie county and lincoln are recieving alot of growth because of this interstate construction.

Is there a reason why you are attracted to Thomson in particular? It's indeed a lovely little town, but your commute may be a big headache because of all of the interstate construction. At your price range you should not have trouble finding something closer in. If you still want to be out a ways but with an easier commute you may want to consider the Patriots Park area of Columbia County.

Technically Thomson is a suburb of Augusta as it's in the metropolitan area of Augusta. However it does have it's own identity as the others stated.

The commute from thomson to augusta is 30 minutes. But construction on intersate 20 in columbia county is starting to pick up. So add about 10-15 for the next 3 year's.

Thomson is a cool town that is ready for the big time. If evans keeps growing the way it is. Alot of people who don't like growth. Because of traffic, overcrowded schools, too much construction etc. Probably will be moving to thomson, mccormick, or lincoln. Thomson has a 40 million new goverment center going downtown. That should help the town grow.
