I'd still worry about the nuclear plant! They have tons of pollution...they don't even know where half of the stuff buried in the ground is from early nuclear days. There's plenty of information online about SRS & pollution problems. I was researching it a few months ago. They are on the National Priorities List:Environmental Pollution in South Carolina- Site: Savannah River Site (Usdoe)

I agree there's plenty of pollution from SRS and others like Monsanto in Augusta.

That being said, I'd pick Aiken over Augusta. But I've lived in both for over 25 years and I'd actually pick neither.

There isn't a whole foods in a 2-3 hour radius. They just opened Earth Fare, a gourmet organic market in Columbia County (one of the "Augusta" counties). There's a little gourmet shop downtown Aiken that has good organic food, but it is not a grocery store and I don't think it has much. I'm a vegetarian and would like to have a whole food store here.

The little town of Columbus have a several stores that sell organic foods: Country Life, Peach Tree Natural Foods and a few others. There are a large number of vegetarians that live in this area. We do not have a Whole Foods yet, but we really do not need one, because we have several locally owned stores that sells the same thing as Whole Foods. The joys of eating healthy and having a verity of places to choose from.

Fresh Market has some great fresh foods as well and has a lot of variety and is getting ready to expand. Earth Fare has a good variety as well and I love the cafe they have in their grocery store. Other organic markets you might want to try are New Life Natural Foods and Foods for Better Living. There are others but those are the ones I have been to.

If you're just bent on sticking with Whole foods then the only ones in Georgia are in the Atlanta area.

Aiken or Augusta? Aiken wins 100%! It should not even be a question.

In response to your question about Aiken or Augusta, I say North Augusta. Its in South Carolina and is full of shops and things to do. The schools are good and you can find many new developments and apartment complexes. Plus you'll still be close enough enough to visit Aiken if need be (downtown Aiken is a must some sunny Saturday morning) and just over the river from downtown Augusta. All towns in the world have their good parts and bad, you just have to know where to be. As for the SRS, I live in New Ellenton where its located, and trust me, it is not going to have some nuclear meltdown. As the person before stated, they no longer deal with that stuff. There are tons of other new government projects going on there now that have nothing to do with nuclear waste.

I'd pick Aiken. Lots more jobs and Augusta is pretty dead. There are some nice houses but don't ask me where to find a job to pay for them. And my impression is that there are lots of yucky car dealerships and clubs and not much else. No culture, neither.

Are you kidding? Do you really believe Aiken has more jobs than Augusta. Or that Aiken is exciting for 20 year old's compared to Augusta. Then why do ppl in Aiken and all of Aiken college students. Drive to Augusta and not the other way around.

Im still trying to get over. How you think Aiken has more jobs than Augusta. LOL
