I'm coming down on Memorial Day weekend to check out the area in light of a possible transfer to Trenton, SC.

I've done my internet research and know I'd want to live in either Augusta or Aiken areas. What I'd like to know is what should I see while I'm there for 3 days? Are there any memorial day activities that are shouldn't miss?

Does anyone live in Georgia but work in SC and if so, what are tax ramifications?

I've heard that there are lofts for rent in Augusta, but I'm having trouble finding information on specific buildings. Can anyone give links or names?

I'm coming from the Philadelphia area and I know Augusta is not as 'big-city' as Philly, but I'm not sure I'd mind that much. I found Metro Spirit and it seems there is stuff happening in Augusta, at least enough to keep me happy.

Oh, would also be interested in opinions on up and coming areas, as I'd like to buy and renovate.

I know that is a lot of questions! Any input is welcome.

Jenn

I work in SC but live in Georgia. The tax difference is marginal. There are lots of places to get a deal on fixer-uppers in Augusta. Olde Town and places around down town are working on rebounding. Harrisburg is a national heritage area and gets some sort of tax benefits for improvements, but it's going to be a good while for that area to rebound really well.

Thanks for the help so far!

Still wondering any suggestions on what to do while I'm there next weekend. Anything interesting going on to get a taste of the community?

Augusta isn't exactly a Savannah.. so don't expect too much as far as touristy things to do. There is a Riverwalk that is rather nice and few bars and restraurants have taken root on BRoad Street. YOu may want to check out an Augusta Greenjackets baseball game. A large lake is about 20 miles north of the city..with beaches, swimming, boating...should be nice for memorial day weekend.
