I will be moving to Augusta later on this year. My wife and I have found some homes in the area that we like. There are two off pleasant home rd and one off columbia road. There is another off furry ferry. And one more off belair rd. Between Martinez and West Augusta which has the better schools, shopping, and neighborhoods. The homes we found are in these two areas. If you had to pick one where would you live?

Well, if your looking for better school, then Martinez would be your best option. The shopping, however, West Augusta is your best option. The neighborhoods are pretty similar in my book for both areas. I would recommend Martinez. It is pretty close to the shopping (like 6 minutes drive to the Augusta Mall), depending on traffic. What is your price range?

Martinez and West Augusta run in into each other.. in fact it's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. If you are in Martinez, you will be very near most of the shopping and restaurants in West Augusta.. but the schools in Columbia County are much better.

I have been offered a job at Ft Gordon & know zip about Georgia; I want to stay away from a long commute ( at the price of fuel these days) because I have my Dad living with me & he will be 90 in Jan. What is the cost of living like around Ft. Gordon & are there alot of venemous snakes ? The Chamber of Commerce page doesn't seem to have a whole lot to offer. THANKS.

Default West Augusta is your best option

I know somebody who stays off pleasant home road. They could have sent their child to westside in richmond county. Or to evans, and lakeside two schools in columbia county. Their child ended up going to westside in the end. So you might as well move to west augusta or closer in the martinez part of west augusta. That way you will be close to the shopping already.

You could live in Columbia County somewhere in the vicinity of Belair Rd and easily commute to Fort Gordon via Jimmy Dyess Parkway.

Default West Augusta

There are several new homes and neighborhoods off jimmie dyess and belair road in west augusta. Besides furry ferry the main corrdior for the martinez area. There isn't many stores or resturants in martinez. Most of the shopping, and stores in the metro area. Are in west augusta

Stick with Columbia County- I live in Fox Run sub. Which is off S. Belair Rd./Jimmie Dyees or Columbia Rd, depending on which way you come. Our schools are Westmont Elem., Columbia Middle and Evans HS. Its 10 min straight shot to Ft. G gate 1. As far as eatting/shopping. Evans, GA which is like 4 miles away. Is BOOMING with growth. Have lots of new eatteries with more to come. Even a new Cracker Barrel in front of the new Home Depot, which is on the old Evans Middle School property.

Default West Augusta or Martinez

Both of the areas neighborhoods pretty much look identical. Alot of west augusta runs into the martinez area.
