Evans is smaller and has less retail than West Augusta. But Evans is building more resturants and retail all the time.

Summerville, Forest lakes, are areas to look into located in West Augusta.

It is a suburb.. nothing really urban about it.. mostly subdivisions, chain restaurants, and big box retail.

Evans has the newer restaurants but much denser rush hour traffic because it has very poor highway/interstate access. Generally speaking, an Evans rush hour commute is a West Augusta rush hour commute +15 to 20 extra minutes depending on which part of Evans it is. West Augusta, specifically along Stevens Creek Rd. between Riverwatch Pkwy and Evans to Locks Rd. has a lot of great neighborhoods with great interstate access. At that location you are very close to the Augusta Canal greenway (unpaved), which begins at the Savannah Rapids Pavillion adjacent to those neighborhoods and runs all the way downtown. If you like recreation and would enjoy walking and biking the miles of trail regularly, that area of West Augusta is tops for convenience to it. It's more convenient to the major shopping destinations and the bulk of restaurants too. It's much closer to downtown as well, if you're one who might go to one of the many festivals and kiddie events and July 4 fireworks, etc. downtown.

The term West Augusta can get a bit confusing. Technically, any part of metro Augusta west of downtown can be considered West Augusta, including Evans and Martinez. When I think of West Augusta, as a district (and most locals who have grown up here will agree with this), is the area north of Gordon Highway and west of Highland Ave and just west of lake Olmstead to the columbia county line. Essentially it is what used to be the unincorported parts of richmond county just west of the old Augusta city limits. Once you venture west into Columbia County, you are then in Martinez and then Evans. If you are travelling on Wrightsboro Rd west, once you cross into Columbia County, you are in Grovetown. So when I say West Augusta. I am talking about the parts only within Richmond County.
