My husband and I are relocating to the Augusta area early October from Pittsburgh. I was told that Martinez and West Augusta are great areas to live. Are there any other areas that are nice and about 20-30 minutes drive to downtown?

Smile Evans, GroveTown..

Evans was rated as top 100 best place to live in US couple of years age, and Martinez was rated top 100 as well in different year.

There are lots of options and house might be considered very cheap compared to Pittsburgh, around $100/sqft new house. Typically no basement on those houses, compared with north.

check this site and you will find lots of information:

Columbia County : Home

You can find out the house transaction history as well when you check house information.

If you are working in downtown and want a 20 minute drive. I would suggest north augusta, martinez, and west augusta. Evans and aiken may be a little further especially during rush hour.

If you don't have kids, Olde Town is worth investigating. National Hills is also a nice neighborhood and is a short drive to down town. (Or bike ride if you use the canal)

If you are working downtown i would choose North Augusta. A nice growing community with great access to downtown. And gas is cheaper in south carolina than it is in georgia.

Evans isn't to bad. The good thing about down here is that housing is pretty cheap, so that can open more doors for you.

Default Another 'Burgher

Moved here three years ago from Pittsburgh area. Love the area, close to mountains and ocean, big cities and small towns. Depending on what you're looking for there are a lot of options for housing. In reality, it takes less than 30 minutes to go just about any area in the Augusta metro area. We live in a Loft in downtown Augusta now, will most likely build/buy home in Evans area in the future.

You'll have a lot more blue skies and you don't have to shovel the hot/humid weather...There are a couple of Steeler's bars in town to boot.

Frankmer,
Much to choose from in Augusta...Summerville, West Augusta, Evans, and even North Augusta, SC. Most of us don't listen to DisgustaTruth and neither should you. Every community has one person like him.
If you have kids, check out the schools. Traffic in Columbia County can be a problem, but compared to Pittsburgh, you should be OK. Housing costs are very affordable, and Augusta recently had a report that showed that housing costs are among the top twenty cities in the country where homes are holding their value during these nationwide downturns in home prices and values.
Glad to have you here!

Look into areas in or near alexander rd and riverwatch. That way you can just hit riverwatch pkwy and have a straight shot downtown.
