Default Augusta in the center of Atlanta, Columbia, Savannah, Greenville, and Charleston

I think leaders in Augusta are finally starting to realize this.

The mayor wants a $31.8 million downtown baseball stadium

The Downtown Development Authority wants a $20-million-a-mile trolley

The coliseum authority wants a 20,000 seat $125 million to $250 million arena.

Drag strip in Hephzibah or South Augusta

A camera system for downtown that would help officers monitor the goings-on and give people a sense of security.

"With a good camera system, one officer could monitor 10 city blocks," he said. "This would be a small fraction of the price of many of the projects that have been mentioned."

And Augusta could have a marketing plan that would include having one of the safest downtowns in America.

The downtown baseball complex is the ONLY items on your list that can make any economic sense...Augusta has a long way to go to catch up with some of those cities...

It was not meant as a shot against Augusta. I just think that a number of the boosters here need to take a realistic look at what can be done. $20 Million a mile trolley line from down town to MCG - Wouldn't that money be better spent in getting better parking downtown? Wouldn't that money be better spent to provide incentives for businesses to locate downtown? To provide incentives for more retail shops to open downtown?

Perhaps we could spent our money in a way that really takes advantages of the area? Have the city work with Bass Pro Shop and turn part of the canal into some type of river water park? Actually get the Village at Riverwatch built???

Make use of the area between 8th and 9th along the Riverwalk and turn it into an entertainment area - Restraurants, shops, bars, cafes, bakeries, comedy clubs, ...you get the idea. Tie them into the existing places Boll Weevils and the Cotton Patch. Make it like a little New Orleans...or a Savannah. Again...help with government incentives.

I moved down here from the Pittsburgh area a couple of years ago. I live in a loft in downtown...I see great promise for the city. But I have also seen a number of things fall flat...Remember the development between Reynolds and Broad on 9th? The developer stated that he planned to have the hotel open by the Masters in 2009? Not a brick has been moved. Remember the Watermark? That died...

Seems like Augusta and the developers can come up with "plans"...they just have a difficult time coming through with the goods in the end.

Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard before. A company headquartered in a city only 2 hours away. Wouldn't fly out of the second biggest city and metro in georgia. Where do you live at?

As they sat"a hit dog will halla"I did't call any names, but it is stupid for anyone living here to be on this forum, just like yourself, saying everything nagative that you can think of aganist Augusta, and what I want to know is,for what purpose? What kind of excitment or fun do you get from constantly "trashing"Augusta, and argueing with me to prove some kind of point????????,which is anybody's guss as to what.Man,you live here,as you said so yourself and can't leave because of a $169,000 mortgage and friends, which I think is bull, but that's another story. The point I'm trying to make is this, you spend every day of your life here in Augusta,a place you obviously can't stand, have nothing good to say about, and constantly "trash"on this forum.I mean anybody reading your bogus and hateful comments would think that you are a very angry and miserable person who is in "a prison like"and can't escape,so you are so miserable and hate living in this town so much that you spend a lot of time online to let anybody and everybody know just how much you can't stand Augusta.Everyone reading this though would ask the same question I have when we went back and forth last week.If you can't stand Augusta so much, then WHY,are you still living here?I'm asking you this much,if my prior posts above did not offend you,why did you have to respond back in order to have the last word?I can atleast say why,I keep posting "rebuttals against people like you who degrade the very place they spend everyday of there life in,it's to keep otheres from different states, cities, and towns, who read the posts on this forum from thinking that Augusta,is some kind of trashy "hell hole" Southernmeltdown,I will say this again though, when I think about how utterly obserd you sound with your bogus arguments about Augusta, and the very fact that you live here and can't even explain to me or anyone else what your whole point is in "trashing"this lovly city, which is your home, like it or not,I JUST LAUGH MY A_ _ off,but check this out,I'm good at getting "threads closed"because I want quit defending my beautiful town against you or no one else.BELIEVE THAT.

Hey,I really did't know I had to be so pointed and break the simplest things down for some people to understand.Well obviously I do,and so I will.Read this real slow and several times if necessary so that you comprehend it.DELTA IS READY WHEN YOU ARE,is a phrase used to reply to someone who doesn't like where there living at.Now look at who I said this too,and see how dum it is for someone on this forum to be "trashing"and argueing with othere members on this forum with no apparent purpose in a town they are living in.Dum a--,I know Delta, isn't here.
