Default Thinking About Relocating To the Evans Area

My son, daughter-in-law, & (1) year old grandson recently completed a move from Southern California to Evans, where my daughter-in-law is from. As we approach retirement age (55 next month) my wife & I have talked about getting out of SoCal, for many reasons. We have visited Atlanta, Stone Mountain, Augusta and Savannah and fell in love with how friendly people are and how beautiful Georgia is. Now that our only grandchild is in Georgia we have even more reasons. My wife is an Institutional Jail Nurse (R.N.). I have worked in the commercial cabinet, millwork, store fixture industry here for 30 years, including many years as a draftsman. I worked as a Project Manger for (5) years and as an Estimator for the last (5) years at San Diego's largest commercial cabinet & architectural millwork company. I know that my wife will have little trouble finding a nursing job in the Augusta area because both my son & daughter-in-law are nurses.
These are my concerns;
1) I am not sure about employment opportuniities for someone in my line of work in the Augusta area.
2) We live on 2 1/2 acres in a more rural area of SoCal and really enjoy the peace & quiet and simpler life that rural living offers. We also like having a little space between us & the neighbors. I do woodworking on the side & I would be concerned about making noise & bothering any nearby neighbors when I run my power tools. Can anyone suggest an area not too far from Evans that could provide this kind of enviroment?

By the way, I'm not a California native myself. I was born in Dubuque, Iowa & I have always been a country boy at heart.

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what you're talking about. Maybe you're thinking of Augusta State Medical Prison in Grovetown. Milledgeville is almost two hours away from Evans.

Yup, you're right about all of those. The federal prison would be something to look into. Federal jobs tend to be more secure, and there always looking for healthcare positions. The YDC ( youth "development" or detention center) is on mike padgett which is the next exit up on 520 from doug barnard. I've seen some RN positions advertised there. I think they were only part time, and paid around $30 an hour.
