This is the latest idea for branding downtown into a entertainment hub. We already have the Imperial, Peter S. Knox is trying to get the community behind the restoration of the Miller and Augustatomorrow Inc. has a new performing arts center on the river in the their master plan set to be reveiled in a week. Thats 3 nice size, historic sanctuaries of art in a 2 block radius. Plans for adding coffee shops and dine ins and outs to be peppered in the district are on the horizon. Would branding of a Theater District help Augusta a legit performing art scene?

Plan could help shape 'theater district,' Augusta 012509 - The Augusta Chronicle

I think this is a great idea, but I am afraid the Augusta commission and the incompetent Fred Russell will find some way to mess it up. I have my fingers crossed though. I went on a tour of the Miller about a year ago... it needs a lot of work, but can easily be restored into a first class entertainment venue. If you have never been inside, you will be amazed at how big it is... much bigger than the Imperial. The Miller could be Augusta's answer to The Fox theater in Atlanta.

If Augusta can pull off the trifecta and have creative advertising fortitude to go with it............this may be the shot in the arm downtown been looking for. A medical district, theater/entertainment district and maybe a shopping district are all we need for downtown to flourish. Our downtown would be as good as Savannah's wouldn't you say?

I think the theatre district is a wonderful idea. A movie theatre would make it complete. But what's up with all the district's in Augusta. Will everything be broken down into districts in the future. Medical, historic, theatre?

these are really just marketing terms...helping to build a gravity around a cluster of similar attractions or institutions.

So true Augusta would be able to boast a little more.
