They are lacking any good sense.

Do you have an factual data to share, or is this all an opinion?

ATL is not NYC; not even close. NYC didn't 'build up' to NJ; Manhattan is separated from NJ by only a river; its like augusta and north augusta.
Also do not forget, NYC had a 200 year head start on ATL.
Lastly, why on earth would you sound so excited about the merging of two cities that are over 140 miles apart?

Southgeorgia, if you visit Augusta. You can see the Columbia county sprawl with your own eyes. The empty land is dissapearing in Columbia county. There is alot more growth in Lincoln, Mcduffie, and Wilkes counties than it was just 2 years ago. Lincolton/Thomson/Washington takes only 45 mins-1hr to Covington/Conyers/Lithonia.

I'm not the type of person who is easily persuaded without evidence.
Thomason to Conyers is not Augusta to Atlanta.
They are each roughly 30 miles nearer each other than the two cities I thought we were discussing; the drive is about 1:15 1:20, city-to-city, not county-to-county.
You'd have to drive at least 120mph to make it in 45 minutes.

Okay but sprawling suburbs is not anything new. When you visit Augusta and drive around Columbia county. Mainly Evans and Martinez. Trust me you will definitely notice the strip malls and restaurants ontop of each other. Some people have already left Columbia county for Wilkes, Lincoln, and Mcduffie county. Because of the extreme growth, overcrowded schools, and bad traffic in certain parts of Columbia county. Drive down I-20 and you can see the construction in Thomson. Drive down I-20 and you see the construction in Conyers. Conyers is apart of Metro Atlanta. Thomson is apart of Metro Augusta.

Actually construction permits from the past year shows that growth has significantly slowed in Columbia County. And remember that only about 1/4 of the land in Columbia County is actually developed, much of the rest is fairly rural.
Once you get past Thomson..the drive on I20 is pretty rural until you get to Covington

How anybody can be proud of sprawling suburbs and Atlanta growing towards Augusta is beyond me.

Everyone likes to build by the interstate. What's behind that though? Trees.

One can go to the census bureau and look at all of the maps of urbanized areas of various metro areas. You will plainly see that Augusta and Atlanta are no where near anywhere to the point of merging together. Metro Atlanta is clearly advancing to the north.. not to the east, south or west for the most part. The farthest east the metro Atlanta urbanised area reaches is the fringe of Covington. The farthest west the Augusta urbanized area reaches is Grovetown.. So that puts the fringes of the two metro areas at over 100 miles apart! But even if you want to expand it and say that Thomson is the western fringe of metro Augusta.. it is still 85 miles from Covington! How does this indicate that the two metro areas are close to merging?
Now Metro Atlanta and Gainesville have effectively merged together.. the only other city I could possibly see it happeng to is Athens.. but even that is unlikely.
Atlanta Urbanized Area
Augusta metro urbanized area
