Default Atlanta keeps growing towards Augusta!

People commute between the two cities for work. Forsyth, Gwinnett, Cobb are built up. The same sprawl that hit those counties. Now is going to the I-20 east corridor Conyers-Rockdale county, and Covington-Newton county. The ride between the two cities is not boring anymore. You can see several developments and construction going on. Places between Atlanta and Augusta that were rural like Madison-Morgan, Greensboro-Greene, Eatonton-Putnam, & Watkinsville-Oconee are not anymore.

A inner county Columbia and a inner county Dekalb are only 1hr and 20 minutes apart. That's a normal commute or less for some ppl in Atlanta.

How long before Atlanta reaches Augusta?

2,3,5 year's?

I hope it never does - talk about sprawl!

And I don't know anyone with a 80 minute commute.

Brooklyn has more tall buildings than Atlanta does. So I definitely think there will be continuous development from Augusta to Atlanta. Downtown and Midtown Atlanta are urban but that's about it. It's mostly a sprawl city.

I'm not sure what Brooklyn has to do with anything, but no - not in any of our lifetimes will there be "continuous development" between Atlanta and Augusta.

Why in the world would anyone want to see that happen to begin with?

I've lived in both. That is absolutely an untrue statement.

I think you'll see Atlanta & Macon "combining" before Augusta. I also think there's a better chance for it to happen between Atlanta & Chattanooga, or Atlanta & the SC upstate before Augusta.

Not sure where you get the 1 hour 20 minutes from, but I have driven between Dekalb and Columbia counties quite often and it usually takes me about 2 hours at 70-75 mph.

Augusta is nearly 150 miles from Atlanta... not even the most sprawling city in america.. LA.. has sprawl 150 miles in one direction. Atlanta is growing more towards the north.. so it is more reasonable to say Atlanta's MSA and Chattanooga may one day merge.. or even more likely with Athens.. Macon is a possibilty.. but Augusta?? Come on. I mean Augusta is the same distance to Charlotte and only an hour from Columbia.. so the only city I could see Augusta some day in the future merging with might be Columbia.. and I think even then we are talking a century in the future.
I know very few ppl who commute for work between Augusta and Atlanta.. certainly not on a daily basis... some ppl may have jobs where they commute to Atlanta once a week.. maybe twice.. but not daily.

I know atleast 6 people who commute between Augusta and Atlanta daily for work. Then I know several other's like lil musket said who commute for once or twice a week. Alot of you are talking about Atlanta's sprawl. Which is going at a good rate on the I-20 east corridor. But what about Augusta's sprawl which is out of control too. Columbia county is a fast growing county because of land. Once that land is gone in the next 2 year's. Columbia county will continue to sprawl into Lincoln, Wilkes, and Mcduffie county. Wilkes is halfway between Augusta and Atlanta. I don't never expect the two cities to combine. But I do expect to see continuous development on I-20 btw Atlanta and Augusta. If New York can be built up all the way to New Jersey. Why do some of yall think its impossible for Atlanta to be built up all the way to Augusta. Atlanta has only 5 million people compare to New york 11 or 12 mill. I definitely don't think as Atlanta continues to grow. That all the new residents will live in the city center over the suburbs.
