Moving to Augusta in June 09
Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are graduating medical school in May and moving from Ohio to Augusta to do our residency training at MCG Hospital. We are making a trip down to Augusta this weekend to look at houses- mostly in the Evans, Martinez and N. Augusta areas. Does anyone have any tips about the areas? We are a young couple (29 and 26) and we would like to be around some fun places to go and possibly shopping? Any good recommendations of places to check out in the area (bars, live music, dog parks, etc?) Looking forward to making the move out of this snow!!!!

Well I wouldn't exatly describe Evans and martinez as "fun" and "hip".. it is pretty much your typical suburbia geared towards families with children. You will find most of your typical big box retailers and grocers in Evans and Martinez, as well as chain restaurants. You may prefer North Augusta because home prices are cheaper and it is within biking distance of downtown Augusta, where you will find more of the nightlife for people in your age range with more of a hip vibe.. and a lot more younger ppl and single professionals or young professional couples without children. Also North Augusta has great recreation facilities with a greenway that snakles through the city and is a favorite for biking and jogging. Also, you will be like 5 mins from MCG, depending on traffic.

Thanks guys. We actually found a house in N. Augusta that we really love...we were a little unsure of the area though. We just drove around ourselves but it didn't seem like there was really anything around. Most people head over into Augusta? Are there any places to eat or any bars in N. Augusta?
I did see the walking/bike path though- perfect! Thanks for the help. And thanks so much for the link!!!

Obviously the city is going to have more than the suburbs. So riding into the city is the most likely option. North Augusta is only 3-5 mins to downtown Augusta. But it does have places to eat in NA city limits.

Thanks! We actually ended up putting in an offer (which was accepted) in North Augusta! We figured its close to downtown and MCG, but still out of traffic a bit. Any tips on the area and places to check out? Lakes (or really any form of water that people gravitate toward in the hot weather??)

There are lots of places to see, downtown Augusta is a GREAT place to shop and hang out, depending on what you are looking for. North Augusta has more in it's suburbs than it does downtown. It relies heavily on augusta for proper downtown activities. There is always something going on, but it is HARD to find out where and when sometimes. ASU has activities on campus, local churches host events, Columbia County library area has activities and James Brown Arena/Bell Auditorium. There is the Imperial Theatre downtown as well. Hope you enjoy your move to Augusta.
