Default When will Augusta be a major city?

I don't live in Augusta I live in Charlotte. But I have visited Augusta a couple of times. With all the construction on the interstates. In addition to a growing vibrant downtown area. How long before Augusta can compete with Nashville, Birmingham, Raleigh, and Charlotte. Will it take 3, 4, or 5 year's.

Majority of the construction and developments in the metro. Are in West Augusta and downtown. The inner core of the city around downtown. Is growing pretty fast.

You have to put things into perspective.. most of the construction especially on the roads, was planned years and years ago and for some reason is now getting done all at the same time. Growth in the Augusta area has mostly been in Columbia and Aiken Counties. Richmond County actually had been losing population for many years, BUT is now starting to gain some population again. Overall, the Augusta metro area has seen an overall growth of around 5.75% over the last 8 years. That's not too shabby, but it is far less than the 20% + growth of metro Atlanta and the double digit growth in some other areas of Georgia... Augusta's growth rate is typically below the state average (though Atlanta skews that heavily)... BUT it is stable. So I don't think Augusta is ever going to become a large metropolitan area like Atlanta or Charlotte. But I think the area will see stable growth.. but not phenominal growth like Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh.. and maybe this is a good thing.. probably a lot of people in Augusta don't want the city to turn into another Atlanta anyway.

I would say Chattanooga or Greenville would be a better comparison for how Augusta may look in the future.

I think you are right... Augusta could get a lot of great ideas from Chattanooga... that city has done a lot of great things in the last 20 years. I would love for Augusta to be more like Chattanooga.. not so much like Atlanta.

Why stop at Chattanooga? I have been to Oklahoma City, Louisville, Knoxville, and other mid-sized cities and think Augusta can be on that level if they choose to.

Those are the operative words.. Augusta tends to have a small town mentality and doesn't like to "think outside the box" .. I think that may be slowly changing, hopefully.

Augusta can't choose to be on that level. Economic development and population growth has to occur along with other factors before it can be on that level.
