Doesn't anyone have any input over whether SC taxes are lower or higher than GA taxes? We are moving to the Augusta area in June and I would really like some information! It may help us decide which side to live on.
Many thanks.

Property, etc. . . I'm not worried about sales tax - it's going to be paid no matter what. But we are going to be purchasing a home and I would like to know which side will eventually cost me less in taxes.

Well, I don't know about SC, but in Georgia, you will have some or all of the following property taxes. School, Local, County, Special Options, And State. It will also depend on location. Water Front property is assessed at a higher rate than inland. Farmland is different from timberland, Marshfront is lower that waterfront but higher than inland.
In other words, some SC Taxes may be lower than Some Ga. taxes, or it may be the other way around....this year. Next year, it could be different. Property taxes fluctuate according to the needs of the community.

property taxes are lower on the SC side.. Columbia County has failry high property taxes because of the school system... Richmond County has a high indingent population which adds stress to the tax base... so those who do own property pay more. I was actually considering moving to the SC side for this very reason, as I would save a good deal on property taxes.
