Augusta expands service area
Residents and visitors have been able to access free high-speed wireless Internet service in the Augusta Common for the last year, but now the service is available for use in a 4-square-mile area of downtown.
"We have potentially in Augusta ... developed the first sustainable wireless model in the nation. That is an amazing thing," Mayor Deke Copenhaver said Monday.
The city's wireless overlay will extend from the city's center and up Walton Way to Medical College of Georgia, Paine College and Augusta State University, Mr. Copenhaver said. It also stretches up Calhoun Expressway and Washington Road to Boy Scout Road.
