The most unfortunate part is there are a very small portion of Augusta residents who have not and will not ever have the needed drive to get a job (as long as their gov checks are steady).

As I understand it, most of these SRS jobs will be temporary contractor jobs.. so they will not be permanant long term positions, and it is not clear how many will be hired locally, or brought in from the outside, but any little bit helps, I suppose. Especially when economic news overall for most of the country has been dismal.

As long as jobs are created here, local or not, the economy will get relief.

Money will be spent at local businesses.. etc

The ones on the gov handouts should have to work for their money via community service. They could employee them to pickup trash on the roadsides.

But there is a difference between temporary jobs and permanent jobs and how they affect the local economy. Temporary jobs will give a brief "boost" to existing business.. but it is unlikely that new ones will be created based on jobs that will last for a finite period of time. But, yes, at this point, any new jobs, regardless of how long they last is good news at this point. We just need to keep their overall impact on the local economy within a proper perspective.
