Need good public schools?? I'd suggest West Augusta and Martinez/Evans... also North Augusta, SC.
Warren Rd and Garrett Elementery in West Augusta are great.. so is Stevens Creek Elem in Columbia County. Harrisburg and Old Towne, while up and coming areas are not going to put you in the best school districts... just something to consider. If you can afford private school, then go for it.

Thanks guys for the help. We are looking into Olde Town and Harrisburg. We don't want to live in the suburbs. What is Heritage Academy in Olde Towne like?

If you can do private school, that is your best option. That allows you more freedom where you can live. The main deterrent some ppl have to living downtown is the school district.. but if you can do private school then its no problem. There is also magnet schools that are available.. you have to apply to them, but when your kids get older that's an option to consider (they are public schools).. the magnet schools are as good if not better then many of the private schools in the area.

My husband and I are also considering a move to the Augusta area. I've got a first grader. If we were to move mid-school year, would we have to wait for the following school year to get into a magnet school? Or can you apply anytime?
