$2 million rennovation on Colony Plaza in South Richmond
The Colony Plaza development has spent more than $2 million to improve the appearance of the shopping center.
The shopping center, located at the intersection of Windsor Spring Road and Bobby Jones Expressway, is home to Food Lion, Sitel Call Center and Applebee's.
"That'll mean more employment, more sales tax revenue and better retail options for the consumers particularly in south Richmond County," said Pritchett.
Pritchett says there are already two new potential stores that have shown interest.
There are three new hotels, a 30 million dollar American tire plant, and this development. In a mile apart on 520 Gordon hwy to Peach Orchard.

That shopping certainly needs a facelift. I always thought it was a mistake for Wal-mart to close their store at Colony Plaza to open the super center on Deans Bridge. They could have simply enlarged the colony square store into a super center like they did with the one on Bobby Jones in Martinez. When they closed the Wal-Mart it killed Colony Plaza almost. They were able to hang on to a few tenants and attract Sitel, but it was never like it was in its heyday. I really think there should be an ordinance preventing this in the future. But if they can bring it back the way it was in the 80s, then great.. especially need to get more casual dining restaurants there. I know alot of ppl on the Southside are tired of driving to West Augusta to eat at certain restaurants.

Walmart couldn't build a supercenter there because Food Lion Is there. There is usually a noncompete clause for grocery stores in the same shopping center. It's why the Walmart on Bobby Jones just now expanded to a supercenter after Bilo closed.

Thanks for the background, but of course having a nearly dead shopping center probably wasn't all that great for Food Lion either. I remember when it was Foodmax.. I used to shop there.

An ordinance preventing a business from moving to expand, in the same city? I'm not sure that would really be that easy, or all that wise...

Roses returns to Augusta
After nearly a 15-year absence, Roses is back. The discount retailer opens tomorrow in Colony Plaza Shopping Center at 2115 Windsor Springs Road.
At one time, there were five Roses stores in the Augusta area. In the early 1990s, Roses stores hit hard times and started to close, said district manager Wayne Cox.
