Welcome to the area! I've been at SRS for almost 2 years and love the area. Although there have been comments such as "not much to do", I've found that we are close enough to Augusta that if we need to go to the "big box stores" it's not a major hassle. I like the small town atmosphere and have found most everything that I need or want here in Aiken.
I don't know anything about the Haven Apartments, but I did look into the Verandas. I can't remember why I didn't go there, but it was knocked off my "short list".
If your husband is going to be working at SRS, I would recommend looking on the south side of Aiken for a residence. I work on the MOX project and although I live just 7 miles from the gate to SRS, it is an additional TEN miles to the project once I get on site. Keep that in mind when choosing a place to live. The SRS site is HUGE! Coupled with the fact that Whiskey Road (the route he would take to the site) is not an interstate highway. The speed limit is STRICTLY enforced, particularly thru New Ellenton (35 MPH). The speed limit along Whiskey Road varies from 45 MPH (in Aiken) to 55 MPH (between Aiken and New Ellenton) to 45 MPH (just north of New Ellenton) to 35 MPH in New Ellenton to 45 MPH (between New Ellenton and the SRS site).
