Board endorses MCG name change | The Augusta Chronicle
Medical College of Georgia will still refer to its School of Medicine but the rest of the university will be changing names.

While the medical school, and the clinical system, will retain the MCG name, the university will take on a new name, “most likely along the lines of Georgia Health Sciences University,” Azziz said. The rest of the schools will also become colleges, he said.

“We will have a College of Dental Medicine, a College of Nursing, a College of Allied Health Sciences and a College of Graduate Studies,” Azziz said.

The plan is to change all of the signs to reflect the new name within the next two years, he said. The resolution passed both boards unanimously.

I don't think they're changing the name for marketing. Alot of people think MCG is only a school of medicine...

Clay Boardman owns the parking lot north of Sutherland Mill at Greene Street. He also owns two other properties across Greene street near a strip of Ellis street. All three of them will become new medical buildings in the future.. The city wants to expand the Medical District north to the river. Clay Boardman is working with the city on the master plan. He plans to get started after the Sutherland Mill is completely sold... The entire second floor was recently sold to Augusta ENT. A large doctor's group is looking at buying 2/3 of the first floor.

On another topic: Mr. Boardman's group has begun gutting and adding a new roof to the Marion Building downtown.. They plan to wait a few years on the market. Then develop the 10 story building into retail, office, and condo space..

Name change approved | The Augusta Chronicle
Add Georgia Health Sciences University to the list of Augusta institutions, along with Medical College of Georgia. The University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved the new name for the school today while retaining MCG as the name of the School of Medicine.

MCG President Ricardo Azziz sought the new name to show that the university was more than a medical school. The other schools at MCG will also become colleges _ the College of Dental Medicine, the College of Nursing, the College of Allied Health Sciences and the College of Graduate Studies.

The companies that operate the school’s clinical system, MCG Health Inc. and MCG Health System, will not change their names. Azziz has said the cost of the name change is about $2.8 million, which had already been planned and budgeted for some time as the school was scheduled to replace old signs and add more.

Extra parking space is about to start in the Medical District. This is a great addition to the MD, since ALOT of people always complain about the parking situation.
