Food Lion on Columbia Road?
I drove past the new Food Lion shopping center that they are (were) building on Columbia Road (in Columbia County). It appears that construction has stopped; I was there about a month ago, and it appears as if nothing has progressed from that time.
Anyone has the inside scoop on what is happening?

Probably the soft economy is hindering it. Also it seems there are more than enough grocery stores in that area.

I think the property is located in Grovetown and not Martinez. The grocery store is needed in Grovetown.

I was just there. It's open and functioning.
My assumption is that Food Lion believes the number of housing developments in that immediate area (Euchee Creek, Tudor Branch, River Birch, etc.) are enough, or will be enough, to support it...time will tell.

there are certainly alot of houses in that area.Other neighborhoods worth mentioning are Ivy Falls and Bartram Trail and even High Meadows. Food Lion has to be banking on the fact that people will shy away from the new Wal- Mart at times and will want to run in a store and run out quickly. Something that you cant do at Wal Mart

I just hope that some more businesses open up in that center. A Chinese place is coming soon and according to the paper it looks like a bank has bought an outparcel in front of it.

Enough with the hicktown banks already!!! If Augusta is growing that much then why dont Bank of America, Sun Trust or Wachovia expand?
