Relocating from metro Atlanta
We've recently have decide to move from Atlanta(Dacula) and are ready to pack up and leave the area to a less stressful, smaller city. Any suggestions where to buy on a 340k budget? Our family loves outdoor activities and we lead very active lifestyles. My husband is going to be working dowtown, so he needs to be near work.
Any opinions?

You may want to purchase somewhere downtown such as Old Towne or Harrisburg. You can find a very nice 250k-280k home since Old Towne property values have not skyrocketed yet. Harrisburg is zoned for ARC which is a pretty good high school with a excellent IB program. If you brought in Old towne you could send your child to Heritage Academy, St. Marys, Aquinas or one of the other nearby private schools. Davidson, C.T Walker, and AR Johnson are great public schools downtown. Davidson is consistenly ranked number one in Georgia when it comes to SAT scores. Davidson and AR Johnson are always ranked in Newsweek's top high schools in the united states. All three schools Walker, Davidson, and Johnson have a 100% graduation rate. The only problem these schools have alot of people trying to get their kids to attend them. Your child may be put on the waiting list because of the number of applicants. A.R. Johnson added a middle school which allowed them to be 6th-12th grade. Davidson is 9th-12th and C.T walker is kindergarten to 8th grade.
If you perfer suburbia type living, check out West Augusta, Martinez, and North Augusta. Easy commute downtown everyday for your husband's job.
Good luck and welcome to Augusta.

North Augusta is south carolina's riverfront. Hammonds Ferry can't be beat in terms of amenities.

Old Towne would be a great place to find a home. The Augusta Canal is only minutes away, which is great for outdoor activities. Plus downtown is very suitable for cycling and jogging.

Stop playing you guys!!!!! You do not want to live in olde town. It is right next to, or in East Augusta. Let me try to give you a pretty decent image of what you'd be moving into. There'll be downtown Augusta on one-side and about 2 or 3 housing complexes on the other. And the houses in Olde Towne look nothing like the ones in Savannah. Believe you me, you will not be safe. Take your butt to the west side, north augusta, sc, or columbia county.

Sorry, I didn't mention harrisburg. I shouldn't have to tell you about harrisburg. You need only to pick up a copy of the augusta chronicle. The people of harrisburg are so fed up with the slum and garbage people that have taken over their neighborhood to the point where they go to the nice subdivisions of those slumlords who rent those apartments to picket and protest.

What a total bunch of baloney. There is no way I would tell somebody to move into a place that I felt wasn't safe.
Why are so many people moving into and fixing up homes in Olde Towne? Why are MCG students flocking to Old Towne? I live downtown about 10 minutes from Old Towne. Three of my co-workers live in Old Towne and love it. I walk my dog and jog through Olde Towne every week. You have no idea what you are talking about. You don't even know where Old Towne is located, but yet you think you know alot about the area. Old Towne is not even in East Augusta. Olde Towne is a very established and safe area. You need to visit a place before moving expressing your opinions. When have you ever read about somebody being robbed or killed in Olde Towne. Because in the news there have been several shootings and robberies in Columbia county and North Augusta. You only need to pick up a copy of the Augusta chronicle to see the amount of crime in Columbia county and North Augusta compared to Old Towne. Old Towne has the lower crime rate everytime. North Augusta just had a drive by shooting two weeks ago and another murder thursday. A woman got dragged by her purse in the Kroger parking lot in Columbia county in Evans. A man stabbed his girlfriend and her friend in Martinez and lead police on a high speed chase. I have never heard of any type of crime like this taking place in Old Towne.

Only one side of Harrisbug is older and needs to be gentrified. Leaders of Harrisburg know that a $100 million kroc facility will locate there. Also how this side of Harrisburg is improving that's why the West End association are protesting. The older side of Harrisburg 10-15 years ago was once all forgotten about. The Kroc facility has pumped new life into people wanting to see this area of Harrisburg vibrant again. Once you cross Eve street it turns into nice lawns and beautiful homes. There are no apartments in Harrisburg.
