Dream on. Augusta will not support this. It might happen around 4011 if we are lucky

List of streetcar systems in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Don't see Augusta on the list -
Maybe someone should update it?

Wikipedia has so many errors on it , i don't use it much anymore. I was researching something about the Light Rail ridership in NJ and found wiki was off by 4,000-10,000 on some lines. and it said some projects were canceled when they were just put on hold. I haven't been to Augusta , but i think that network is too tiny , i think your city needs 1 city long Light Rail for starters and then a Streetcar network in Downtown. People will say its a waste and shouldn't happen and will bring crime, but you can always use the Northeastern US as example , Light Rail , & commuter has brought alot growth to areas of my state that were down on the luck and has also lowered crime 20% in some places. A few months after you complete your first line developers and visitors will come to your city and region and pump millions into it.

It lists the last streetcar in Augusta as stopping service in 1937...but it does have several left out, I know for a fact there used to be at least 1 trolley in Aiken County, but Wikipedia doesn't list anything for Aiken county...but the reason this current downtown trolley isn't on the list is because right now it's just a proposal.

Nexis4Jersey, I agree, maybe one or two longer lines that run from Aiken to Augusta to Columbia County, and from South Augusta to Augusta, it could be set up to run alongside the rail tracks that already pass through these areas.

And par4him, give me a break.

That's probably the one I'm thinking of too, I remember my great-grandmother talked about riding one into Augusta, and she lived in Aiken.

The downtown residents support rail 100%. The proposed routes may changed to a degree. I'll say in 2012 to 2015.

Light rail? Nah, that's not happening anytime in the foreseeable future. Augusta simply doesn't have the population base or population density for light rail. Phoenix just got its first leg of light rail last year, and it's a metro area of 4 million+. We got our first leg here in Charlotte a few years ago when we had about 1.5 million in the metro area. Hampton Roads is getting its starter light rail line and it's a metro of 1.7 million. Augusta is nowhere nears those numbers. However, I think the city could sustain a great modern streetcar network and that would be a much more feasible and economical route to take.
