Good morning,

In a few threads people have alluded to Costco coming to the CSRA, perhaps to the Village at Riverwatch or Wheeler Towne Park. Is there any substance to this, or is this just wistful thinking? I tried doing a google search and could not find anything.

The Village at Riverwatch was originally (and still is) supposed to have a Bass Pro Shop, Starplex Cinema, Belk, and Costco; but this was announced right before the 'Great Recession', so the project was put on hold indefinitely because of that. The development was supposed to have been completed by late last year, but because of economic conditions, the only thing that has been done so far is site prep work.

The only thing that I know of that was announced for Wheeler Towne Park was the CarMax (already built, supposedly opening this year) and either REI, Gander Mtn., or both. But this development has also been at a stand still due to sour economic conditions as well.

These type of developments were put on hold all around the country because of the slow economy, but I personally think that we'll start to see these developments pick up steam again as early as this year since things are progressively getting better. So, in short, the Costco wasn't a rumor, it was/is coming, but it hasn't been built yet is due to the recession.

I've heard Bass Pro, Pizza Extreme or Extreme Pizza, Belk, Costco, and Starplex Cinema (first location in GA) for Village at Riverwatch... Augusta is on Bass Pro Website..

I've heard Gander Mountain and Northern Toole so far at Wheeler Town Park...

REI and Apple were supposed to go at VAR before the economy. Augusta Mall now has Apple. Still no REI in Augusta...
