@Hot_Mike, whaaaaaaaaa! I could care less if low/modest income people came downtown to drink. Let say that we have open containers downtown and it does improve the nightlife and vibrancy of downtown, but does it help the retail? Will we get a Lacoste shop or even a Burlington Coat factory downtown because of it? Can you say that more restaurants will locate downtown? We are all for progress in Augusta. At the end of the day, that is what we all want. Nortonguy, EastsideDave is only stating the truth. I know about all of the projects in Augusta because of you and the fact that you state them very often. There is nothing wrong with that, except that you've been telling us about the projects since they were first announced last year. And yes, some of the things you stated above is new to me. I think that it is safe to say that we all believe that Augusta should have had a lot of things a long time ago. We should already have a new arena, more than 3 airlines, and have seen some changes to our skyline by now.

@Nortonguy, why why why do we have to do this? Just answer this for me. If the TEE gets stalled or doesn't bring in enough people, what is going to happen to downtown Augusta? If we had a constant stream of bodies down there by way of ASU, no matter what happened with the TEE, we would still see growth. Having a convention center is tricky business. The moment the TEE is completed, we will be competing with Metro Atlanta, Greenville, Columbia, etc for business. Augusta is going to have to step up regardless. I hope Deke gets us the baseball stadium downtown. And I hope that baseball stadium leads to Augusta hosting some NCAA tournaments. I just want Augusta to become the city that it should have been. We all know that everything I just stated, Augusta should've had atleast 4-5 years ago.

Lacoste? Burlington? sure why not. I mean those places have no desire to come downtown as is anyway. Do you think the TEE center and Hyatt would bring Lacoste to downtown? Probably not and we spent millions to land the two. So why would it matter if open container would help retail development? It will help the businesses that are downtown now.....and it wont cost you a dime
