Columbia County commissioners approve zoning ordinance creating new housing classifcation | The Augusta Chronicle
The new classification will require 10-foot setbacks from side property lines, require additional tree plantings and sets a new standard for green space in these developments. It is predicted that the proposed regulations, including green space preservation, would raise the average house price by at least $10,000.

Two new hotels are planned near Fort Gordon...
Quote:
A 90-room Homewood Suites by Hilton and an undisclosed 65-room extended stay hotel are slated for a 5.2-acre parcel at 2169 Gordon Highway, between Bobby Jones Expressway and Fort Gordon’s Gate 1, according to Augusta-Richmond County planning documents.
Amenities included with the Homewood Suites project are listed as a swimming pool, courtyard and patio, according to the documents.
The property is being developed by local hotel investor Harinderjit Singh, who also built a Hampton Inn next to the mostly vacant land in 2012. Messages left for Singh on Wednesday were not immediately returned.
Project engineer and surveyor Lawson Graham said he expects construction on Homewood Suites could begin in late summer or early fall, if approved by the city. The hotel could open by June 2016, he said.
Details of the second hotel have not been finalized.

They are, and I think this would be considered West Augusta, as they aren't far from the mall. Either way, it's in Augusta.

A 2 mile straight shot to Gate 1 is definitely what most people would call "near"...

I disagree, anything on the other side of Gordon Hwy divides South Augusta From West Augusta from about the Highland Ave are until Ft. Gordon. After Ft. Gordon, either you are on post or in West Augusta depending on which side of Gordon HWY you are on.
