You know what, those door to door salesmen are just trying to make a living like the rest of us. You don't mind giving your money to those rip-off HOA's, but god forbid someone doing a honest days work comes to your door and takes a few minutes of your time. You people with alittle money in your pockets that think your better than everyone else is exactly what is wrong with this country. They are out in over a 100 degree weather trying to feed thier families. If you don't want to let them in then don't, but do not put them down for taking a few minutes of your time to save you money.

I'm just saying...

Sounds like your unnecessary overreaction caused you to miss out on some decent savings. Most D2D salesman that work for reputable companies have to go thru all kinds of background screenings. A company like Reliant would never risk the poor reputation by sending some criminal to your home.

What people fail to realize is with the constant restrictions on advertising and the increased rate of radio, tv, and mail advertising D2D sales are going to become all the more common. A fair amount of businesses struggle simply because they can't get their message out to the consumer and in this case you clearly would have benefited...

D2D sales used to be a very respectable American business in the old days. It's a shame people have to live and fear and stay consumed in their little bubbles.

More common, you say? Like the glut of trash(fliers) stuck in our doors a couple of times a week? Like the bandit spam signs posted at intersections and on utility poles?

Guess what...doesn't work at our house and most of our neighbors feel the same way. You think 'conventional' advertising is 'restricted'? Try getting NO return on having a salesperson go door to door for a week. THAT'S not going to 'get their message out'. All it would do at our house is turn us off. I'm not paying a mortgage just so salespeople can have an opportunity to pitch a product. You wanna lose MY business? Ring my bell or stick a flier in my door without MY permission...that'll get MY message across!

What do "rip-off HOA's" have to do with door to door salesman?

My HOA is not a rip off, it costs very little and helps greatly at keeping up the quality of our neighborhood.

I realize that everyone needs to try and make a living, but one has to be really desperate to do it going door to door. I will never by anything from a door to door salesman because it is too risky, there are too many crooks out there looking to separate us from our money. We worked hard for the little bit of money that is in our pocket and have a right to keep it there. I also have a right to the peaceful enjoyment of my home and door to door salesman do not have any right to disturb that.

Go get a real job.

And then the crooks took over the industry. Watch the movie "Tin Men" its a very amusing movie about a couple of door to door aluminum siding salesmen/conmen. http://movies.netflix.com/Search?v1=...nmen&ac_posn=1

I didn't mention anything about fliers. Only true D2D sales. It's clearly a successful marketing tool or companies wouldn't be moving to doing it... Due to the low cost companies only need 1-2 people a day to say yes per rep and they knock 100s of doors.

Speaking of fliers though I think it is interesting how you look down on someone working hard to put it on your door vs a company who buys your address and just mails it to you.

Hmmm...Let's see...the 'mailman' doesn't walk across my lawn or jump off the stone block wall into the jasmine in front of my walk or break(2) sprinkler control box covers in order to deliver my mail. The mail doesn't interrupt my private or work time by ringing my bell or knocking on my door, disturbing my dinner or phone conversation. I've never had mail 'delivered' before sunrise by sticking 'information' into my front door lockset. Do you REALLY think it's a good idea to fiddle with someone's front door handle at the crack of dawn?

It would be fairly difficult to lose MY business faster than by bothering me at home, sticking a flier in my door or posting illegal sign spam on the side of the road.(One exception--you throw a baggie with rocks and a business card in my yard and I'll call Code Enforcement as soon as I can get your license number.)

I don't have any trouble at all finding businesses, contractors and suppliers for all sorts of products and services WITHOUT being accosted at my own front door. Thanks for playin' .

You are a compelling example of why door-to-door salespeople are not welcome at my home.
