Default Taylor Morrison Homes in Steiner Ranch - Opinions?

Hi all - I'm looking to move to Austin and have found a nice deal on a new construction home in Steiner Ranch. It's Taylor Morrison.

Anyone have any tips on this builder? So far I have been thoroughly unimpressed with their attempts to get me to finance with them, and some of their decorator choices leave much to be desired, but they seem to build a pretty reasonable home for the price.

Thanks in advance.

We live in Steiner and have a Morrison home. Ours was a resale, so we've never dealt with the builder, but we couldn't be happier with our house. Same goes for our neighbors (they're all Morrison homes).

I think they make the nicest house in Steiner in the price ranges.

I haven't heard anything bad about them, and I know they build some pretty houses! From my experience with my builder, as well as pretty much everyone else in our newly developing neighborhood who has built with Gehan/Wilshire/David Weekley, the types of complaints you do have spread across the board. It seems that they all have issues at the design center and the builder financing.....ugh! Good luck!!

There has been a lot of discussion on the Austin forums over the years about the fact that there is very little differentiation between builders within a section of a subdivision because they literally all use 90% the same subcontractors for the mechanical, plumbing, framing, etc.

In other words, a Taylor Morris home is not built by a "Taylor Morrison crew". It's built by the same subs that build the other homes.

It could be argued that some differentiation occurs in the specs of the homes, and the quality of construction supervision, oversight and customer service. But even that will vary greatly among anecdotal tales of past customers, and the difference in those customer experiences probably have more to do with those individuals than the company they are dealing with.

That said, you do want to ask around of the current home owners and see what you hear. But use that info in proper context.

Steve
