This makes me wonder what the F1 planners were thinking when they said they were building a 200MM track out near the airport. It's already a giant eyesore, now there is a homeless camp.. They should have built it between the airport and downtown - less area that will eventually need to be redeveloped.

I also don't think that living in a place that has airplanes approaching a few hundred feet overhead is dignified for anyone. If they have mental issues, this could be as bad as chinese water torture.

You can't just buy some land, plop some homes and fill it with homeless and walk away.

they could ride the new rail system

Land is a natural resource, and the idea that someone can not have a spot of land to use, due to not being able to afford one, is not right.

Right, and you should buy it for them!

Does Senator Chris Dodd write your stuff?

Will there be adequate bus service for them?

ROFL..yeah that would make CapMetro very happy with increased ridership numbers. Might even give them some fodder to pass the next "we need mass transit" bill.

Better yet..let the homeless LIVE on the trains since very few others are using them.

No, he does not write my stuff. I don't think there is any politician or political party that shares my belief system. All of them (even the minor parties) have some major piece of their platform I disagree with.

Land is a natural resource, and land use should be a right. If we go back far enough, the land was stolen (or taken by force) anyway.

If you are thinking that I am completely socialist by this statement, consider that I do NOT believe medical care is a right.
I do not think that housing is a right.
Nor do I believe that any thing in the economy, which is value added (required the labor of someone else to create) is something that anyone has any natural right to.
(Not to be confused with my sometimes thinking that providing these things benefits society as a whole.)

I would not be in favor of our tax dollars providing the Trailers (but Loaves and Fishes has already agreed to do that).
The only piece of this project, I am in favor of having freely provided, is the physical land.

It is flawed logic to assume that because I believe that people have a right to something, that I should personally take on the task of providing it (especially if it means my feeding the very system I disagree with, to accomplish the task.)

Have you been watching the news, and following the story?

I understood that Loaves and Fishes was going to maintain the place, and build the infrastructure (including sanitation facilities).

homeless on the downtown streets every day and they are all over the suburbs now.
Dignity Village = temporary stay?
Austin one = permanent?

Graham envisions the park as a gated community with 100 RVs, 50 cottages at a 150 square feet each,
central restroom, shower and laundry facilities, a main lodge and a chapel. Mobile Loaves & Fishes would
rent the cottages and RVs for $100 to $375 a month to single people or couples who are chronically homeless,
often defined as those who have a disability or addiction and have been homeless for more than a year,
Graham said. Residents could stay in the trailers permanently, he said.
City may consider land near airport for RV park for homeless people
Also, if more cities took care of their own homeless residents instead of
running them out of town by making laws that target the homeless...Portland (etc) wouldn't be overrun in the first place.

This type of tactic happens with minimum wage laws, environmental laws etc.
Some things only work if everyone agrees to do it. Otherwise you're soon swamped with 'refugees'.

The reason they want it by the airport I'm sure is that theres bus service from that area to downtown.
