so excited. but i feel like i'm going to stick out once i open my mouth. i do have the boston accent . people are either going to hate me (boston isnt well liked around the country from what i've experienced/heard) or it'll be a good conversation starter as it's not something you hear very often in Texas.

I am sure it will all work out for you! The first step is that you are excited about coming to Austin! There are all types in Austin! I came from New Jersey 20 years ago, and felt the same way, but there are allot of great people here! Good luck!

No worries! I grew up in New England but somehow managed to escape the dreaded accent. My brother-in-law has a wicked accent and he's lived in the Dallas area for over 30 years without any problems at all. Since Austin is much more laid back and welcoming, I'd say you're in the clear. This is a complete generalization, but I think you'll find the majority of Texans that you meet to be friendly and polite. If they notice your accent, they'll use it as a conversation starter rather than something to bash you about. Good luck in your move - I love both cities for different reasons. Both great places!

my Fiance and I moved here a little less than a year ago from Boston. I have never really had the accent but he has a very thick South Boston Accent. Where he works it was a definite conversation starter. I have not experienced any dislike for Bostononians down here, or anywhere else [excpept maybe NYC] for that matter. You will be fine, we love it down here. Definitely a nice change from Boston in winter!
