Yes, AISD took the substitute application link off of their website!

OP: are you a "Trustafarian" who doesn't need regular income? If so, what is your price range for a rental? Otherwise, you need to focus on the job not housing! There is no lack of qualified teachers here, and school starts in about 6 weeks!! Most schools are fully staffed right now.

Austin's job market is great compared to many areas of the country, but it just blows my mind how many people from out of state think that they can just move to Austin and the jobs will be waiting for them. This post is a good example of that.

I moved here in 2008 from out of state and went to the aisd job fair and got several offers within the week. Things are a bit tighter now with the terrible tx economy, but it'll come back up. Plus if you have any certifications in sped, esl, math, or science, you'll land a job easily- even in this economy. Good luck to all the educator transplants! Just trying to keep it positive...

I am 28 and planning on moving to Austin as well in september. I work in nuclear medicine and I have found that simply applying online for positions is not very successful. I'm doing the same thing as you are... I just stashed a bunch of money away so that I won't be pinching pennies. From all the research I have done, it seems like Hyde Park is a really nice area and S. Congress. I have lived downtown in plenty of cities...I much prefer a nicer apartment in a close-by suburb with quick, easy access to downtown. Good Luck with the job hunt!
