I've been looking at apartments in Austin but for a 15-20 min commute what's a few near by cities outside Austin to look at and does anyone know in those cities any newly built apartments? I'm moving to Austin next Thursday.

Thanks again for the help

Given your work location, the northern suburbs are probably too far.

If I were you, I'd look at some of the new condo or apartment buildings in the South Congress/South First/South Lamar area. Otherwise maybe off Southwest Parkway if you want something more suburban.

Would you possibly know any names of brand new apartments?

Thanks again

I used to live at the Preserve @ Travis Creek on Southwest Parkway. It is a nice, newer complex. There is a large dog park, and they take large breed dogs too! Now, it was back in 2004 that I lived there, but at the time, I thought it was a little pricey for the out of the way location. I paid 870 a month for a 2/2. It had about 1000 sq ft, and a good layout which included a laundry room and a very nice, very private patio...I don't know what apartment rent is doing right now because I haven't lived in another apartment since then, but at the time I probably could've gotten a similar apartment on South Lamar or South First for the same price.

But if you want to live southwest, that is a good complex, and it's still a more convenient location than other SW areas because it's so close to Mopac, and not all that far south.

With interest rates being so low and so many incentives, have you thought about purchasing a home or condo? There are many advantages to owning.

Like income tax write offs, deductions on interest and property taxes. You can't deduct any part of your rent payments. You are always going to live someplace right, how much does your landlord own you when you are locked into a 12 month lease year after year?
