KB Home's University Park in Georgetown
Anybody know anything about this development? The houses are amazingly priced (seems too good to be true) and it seems like it is within Georgetown, not the outskirts (but the details seem fuzzy)? Am I wrong? Any thoughts on location or the community it is in? Thanks for any help.

I don't know anything about that area or neighborhood, but I can tell you that KB is one developer poorly enough thought of in general that I wouldn't buy one ever.
They tend to have large cheaply built houses at low price points and soak you on upgrades. At least they are known for that in California. Some realtors out there refuse to show KB homes - dunno if they do that here.

Hi there, I thought I would respond as I am going to relocate to Georgetown and I was just out there 3 weeks ago checking out this and that. I toured the KB homes site at University Park. The homes are in a nice location, near Southwestern University and close to everything central. Im originally from California where everything is expensive and now live in England where house prices are crazy and thought how great the prices were in Georgetown, $115,000 for a brand new 3 bed 2 bath house is great. The trouble with the KB homes is EVERYTHING is an upgrade, it got plain silly. Everything from the plot to the seals on the windows. By the time I added everything up I wanted, I had added another $40,000 and that was being conservative. When I visited the KB design studio, to be honest there wasn't as much choice as I thought. I thought ok, I buy this house and put flooring and cupboards etc in that I wouldn't really choose, but thats what they have so not much choice. In the end I am choosing to buy in a more established neighborhood and then can do whatever I want to my house. Also trying to email or call them and get them to return my calls has been a big hassle and thats before they get my business. Those are just my thoughts and there was also some really nice neighborhoods near by already established with great prices. Just keep your mind open really, thats what I am doing. Take care.

I would stay clear from KB homes if I were you. My first home was KB.

If it's KB, you're buying the Yugo of new homes.

Well, there's a reason for that.
I would heed the warnings of others. If you absolutely can afford nothing better, and plan to live there at least 5 years, go for it.
I know a Realtor who specializes in Short Sales (helping owners work out a sale for less they owe on the home). I asked him one day, "where is most of your short-sale business coming from nowadays?".
His answer, "mostly the KB neighborhoods".
What else do you need to know? Be very, very carefull.
Steve

Our first house was a KB as well. Although we never experienced any problems with it, the walls were very thin (You could hear any noise from any room, even when downstairs). Of course, that was in Denver, and the KB neighborhood we bought in ran from about the mid 100's to nearly or at 200k.
