IMO, Austin isn't humid at all, just HOT. Although I'm from the lower east coast where humidity is 90%+. To me, the heat here is much easier to handle.

Good luck finding a place in that rent range. We just got a place in the NW area and are paying $800 for an apartment, not including utilities.

The temperature in Austin is higher than in Boston but the humidity feels much worse in Boston. The heat can really drain you here. When I lived in MA the winter was when I stayed inside like a hermit, now I am a hermit in the summer and look forward to when I have energy in the winter.

Same here and it's really starting to get to me.

Just don't try so hard during the summer, sit back, and relax - there is no better time or place to enjoy a pool and a drink. If you have a day job, you're most likely in an A/C controlled building - big deal. Enjoy the other 8 months of the year for what they offer: festivals, 60 degree days, Christmas, etc.. I like the summer here, I like the low-key lazy afternoons, the warm 76 degree mornings, and the night time temps that keep us loose and comfortably dressed. I find it "cozy" in a strange way.

It's only been hot for a couple of weeks this year. Heck we'd already had, what, 60 days straight of 100 degrees at this time last year?

This year is like fall compared to last summer.

It's hard to find things to do when you have preschoolers, though. I don't have a day job and the a/c at our home is set at 80. Setting it lower is cost prohibitive. Even playing in the backyard is miserable. I can't wait to move north. I can always put on a layer, but it's hard to stay cool.

If you have a pool (even a kiddie pool), tree coverage and a greenbelt lot, then it's very tolerable, even enjoyable. Houses like that are still available, and for less than 250K.

And that would put the OP waaaay out of his budget.
It will be very hard to find a place for 750 without electricity and water paid, much less WITH.

Important to remember $250k is considered a "starter" home here in Texas.

Consider what 250K gets you on either coast.
