[quote=mimimomx3;1314211]when i first moved to austin .i was told the traffic is horrible.i have only been in two horrible jams in 2years.small price to pay for a city of racial diversity, live music and great people.
A) You bike to work
B) You walk to work
C) You've only been on Mopac or I35 twice
D) You only drive between 12.00 and 3.00[/quote
Good job:
I was on the 35 friday and I hit bad traffic twice with 2 accidents. I got this individule beat for the year when I hit I 35 Monday. ABCD or how about checking to see if there is another austin, because this one cant be the one the poster was talking about.

So why don't you move back there instead of constantly posting about how much better Dallas is? I honestly think that there isn't a single other person on this forum who'd agree with that.

Stop attacking me. I have to be here in Austin until I graduate from school.

Great place to live!
I am surprised to see all the negative comments about Austin. Everyone I know loves it here and wouldn't imagine ever leaving. It is a favorite city of many Texans. You have the advantages of a city (high property values, job opportunities, good schools, shopping, concerts, activities), but the beauty of the hill country is all around you. And you can't beat spending a day on Lake Travis. The neighborhoods and people of North Austin are very different from South Austin, so make sure you understand the differences before you move here. There are many liberals in Austin, so if you share those views you will love it. If you don't (and you are like me), you just learn to tolerate them. My only real complaint is that it is a sanctuary city.

Could you elaborate on the differences? I am moving there in the Spring and want to make sure I end up in the "right" neighborhood for me, personally, prior to my move.

Dallas is a LOT bigger than Austin, so of course there are more cultural activities. Deep Ellum is pretty cool, and Lower Greenville. My 2nd favorite scenery to the Hill Country would be the Piney Woods around Tyler, etc...

Sounds like a good topic to start another thread on, you'd probably get many responses.

It's much more complex than "north" vs. "south" Austin. You will find pockets of people all over the city and the region with whom you get along fabulously, there are pockets of high crime, other areas with lots of wealth, some old wealth and some new wealth.
It's not easy to characterize this city's zones based on minimal criteria. What are you seeking? List 10 things you want in a neighborhood, and put a price cap on it. Good luck with the price cap. Seriously, the best parts of Austin are quite expensive, but you can find inexpensive hidden jewels in other parts of the metro area and maybe someone can help you. But the only way anyone can help is if they know what you're looking for.
