I taught at a daycare center in Arkansas that had an accredited preschool program for the 4 - 5 yr olds. I had one student who scratched, kicked and tried to bite me one day when he got angry. I still have the scars on my hand from where he dug his long nails into my hand. The director of the school arranged a meeting with the parents to let them know that this behavior was unacceptable and if it happened again he would be expelled. From the meeting we learned that his previous school - catholic preschool - had kicked him out for the same behavior the year before. I think the director would have expelled him if money wasn't an issue. Class numbers were down and he needed the money to keep the business going. He was still handful after the incident. Fortunately he never went to that extreme again.

When my oldest was in preschool (Montessori), there was a four year old boy there who was expelled for hitting classmates on several occassions. The Director had many phone calls and a meeting with the boy's mother but her point of view was that he didn't behave this way at home, so it must be something going on at the school. She refused to speak to her son about his behavior, so he was asked to leave about three months into the school year. I've had kids at this preschool for four years now and that is the only expulsion during that time, so it may be a rare phenomenon. Good luck with your research!

Why is this thread allowed to continue when other threads are closed saying there isn't anything "Austin" about them?

I suppose I felt it was implicit that I live in Austin and was interested in the incidence in OUR area, however not excluding information from other experiences.
