Hi there,

Another person looking to move to the Austin area from CA. Interested in the Steiner Ranch community. My husband is an avid wake boarder and I like to go horseback ridding and own a horse. Looking for a place that would cater to both activities. We're trying to get pregnant with our 1st so younger couple neighborhoods are preferred. Any other suggestions on neighborhoods? Our price range is in the 250K-310K. Also, any suggestions on horse boarding around the Steiner ranch area would be great! My web searches are running dry.

Thanks!

I'll see what I can turn up, but I have to advise you that it's pretty rocky in that part of the Austin area (Austin chalk - limestone) and thus not all that great for horses, so there are a lot fewer stables in that area than other parts of the area - they have to find one of the "pockets" of good soil. Maybe in the Cedar Park/Leander area there would be something. Or Bee Caves/Lakeway area.

Which is not that far from Steiner Ranch in Texas terms.

Thanks for the response TexasHorseLady. We've been looking around the Lakeway area too. I'm looking for an area that I could board my horse that has lots of trails and water crossings.

I drive by Bee Creek Stables (Spicewood) every day. I don't know if it meets the OP's needs or not. It is 5 minutes from Lakeway via the new Highland Blvd. road, which is not on most maps yet.

... and just as a reminder to the uninitiated, property taxes in Austin are rather high so even though 250-300k sounds cheap to Californians ( I am one too) the taxes on that 300k house will set you back around $6,000 a year every year and will go up from there with the value of the house. Just something to consider...
