What is the best area with mountain views AWAY from colleges?
Hello everyone!
We want to live around Austin and would love great moutain views but do not want to be close to colleges. We are looking for a quiet area and we want to rent an apartment to make sure we like the area before we purchase.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Well, I would hesitate to call any of the hills around Austin "mountains." That said, if you want a "hill country" view, anywhere west of Mopac/Loop 1 would be a good starting point. There are quite a few nice apartment complexes in the southwest part of town.

There are some apartments at 2222/360 that appear to have really nice views.

Well Hill Country is kind of a mountain area :)
I love the Hill Country. Are the places you two suggested away from the colleges? I actually think that the Hill Country looks kind of like Southern California

Check out Windsor at Bee Cave
Bee Cave and Lakeway has nice hill country views. A brand new apartment complex just opened up on 71 (near FM2244 intersection). They have great incentives since they are new. Next to the apartments is the new Galleria which will open this fall and is suppossed to be upscale shopping. I think you will really like it there.

why do you want to be 'away from the colleges'?
If you're worried about drunken mobs in togas... most of the areas around UT are pretty quiet.

If you love the Hill Country, their are plenty of apartments you can choose from in the Oak Hill area. The Oak Hill area is away from UT and has a country feel.

Thanks everyone! We want to be away from Colleges because 1.) places to eat tend to be more crowded Even here, if I go to one Chipotle to run in and get carry out it takes 3 min even at dinner. I go to the one closer to a college and it is loud, dirty and takes me 15 min to get out of there before of the lines 2.)driving tends to be worse (that is even stated on the board here) 3.) if you are around a college you get a flux of people from all over and not the true essence of Texas which is why we want to move there 4.) We have rented apartments/condo's on vacations and to lay in bed and hear doors open and slam shut over and over is just not something I want to "live" by. Plus when you go to the pool to relax and read a book it's nearly impossible. College kids hormones are flying and you get the giggling and screaming girls from the boy who have to splash them, play volley ball and scream and grunt, etc. That is great for them and good times I am sure but we have passed the age that we want to choose a place to live around that. So if I look at an appartment that has a pool with a volley ball next and offers 3-6-9-12 month leases, then it is a good indication I probably don't want to live there.

The Hill Country is nice, but it doesn't really even "kind of look like" Southern California.

Ummm....don't want to burst the bubble, but Austin really isn't the 'true essence' of Texas...not even close. You will find a flux of people from all over in Austin, in just about every corner of Austin. If you want the 'real' Texas, and I'm not even sure what THAT is, I would try Midland, or Amarillo or maybe Harlingen. It's not Austin.
