A small discussion on Lockhart........
In our search for homes south of Austin in a small neighboring community or town ( Wimberley, San Marcos, Dripping Springs, etc) some of the most interesting architectural "gems' seem to be in Lockhart....
Can anyone provide a bit of feedback on this town? We don't need to commute.
Thanks.

Well, they are known for having the best BBQ in the state (and some would say the world!)

Good BBQ.... and not much else.
I live in south austin, and regularly drive to lockhart to visit family.
Fairly mellow, pretty small town. Not terribly exciting, but hey - maybe that's what you want.
Some nice older homes, but lots of ugly treeless expanse going up as well.

There is a very strong money scent, too, although some people confuse it with sulfur . Not as much money smell as Luling, though....

Are you suggesting their is an "entitlement" arrogance in Lockhart? It's for the monied crowd?

OH NO! I mean that the town smells like sulfur and sulfur compounds from all the oil wells. I don't think much of the oil money stays in town, either......

Just go there and see what you think. Form your own opinion as well.

hi guys,
I am a French guy and I am in the Austin area for business.
I am willing to see old authentic oil wells in the Austin area.
Do you think that Lockhart is the right place for that ???
You must find that strange but one must know that oil wells are part of the "pictures" we associate to Texas in Europe!
Thanks!
