Hey There,

I presently live in Seattle, but have been looking to relocate.

I'll just admit it: I am a closeted pop musician. I write songs, busk here in Seattle, but have had no luck forming a band. My songs just don't fit in. So I was planning to move to a different city, partially to pursue my musical interests, but mostly because the forbiddingly grey Seattle winter skies--which seem to stretch from October through May!--are beginning to drive me batty.

So puh-leeze: Tell me about Austin!

More than just it being the location of SXSW. What is the economy like? The people? The music must be hot, but is the weather too? What's the housing like? I've read it's expensive, but it doesn't seem so bad on Craigslist, especially when comparing it to what I now pay in Seattle.

Is there state tax? How about sales and county taxes?

I was thinking about the Southwest, Alburqurque, Santa Fe, Tucson and Phoenix. But Austin beats all these places musically any day!

Any ideas? I would most gratefully appreciate any feedback.

Muito abrigado!

Jon.

you and quite a few more of us, jon-dot-kom.
Peruse this board and you'll find a TON of re-locatees (and hopeful relocatees) from Seattle, and you'll find more than one thread on the HEAT.

You've found the right spot!

My across-the-street neighbor is from the Seattle area... and I'm pretty sure she'd say "Ruuuuuuuun! Get out, get out NOW!" LOL!

Take a look through the So if you WERE going to convince someone to move to Austin... topic for allllllllll the reasons you might wanna move here... because you DO!
