And of course, there is UT.
My pick on Indian restaurants - Swad, Bombay Bistro, Madras pavilion.

I work at a hospital in North Austin. We have a TON of Indian patients. There are also several Indian families in my Round Rock subdivision.

There's India Kitchen on Riverside if you're south of downtown. They have a buffet as well. For a buffet, I was pleasantly surprised.

According to my pediatrician, Austin has the 2nd largest Indian population in the country after southern California.

The largest Indian population is in NW Austin, hands down. Visit any neighborhood in the Spicewood, Jollyville, McNeil, Arboretum areas and you'll find that Indians are becoming the majority there. I used to live in that area so I'm very familiar with it. I was told by one of my Indian neighbors that the reason they live in that area is because of the location to high tech jobs and the biggest reason was the schools. They all want their kids in the BEST schools and that area is full of them. Laurel Mountain elementary is exemplary along with several others and they all know about it. If you visit any apartment complex in that area, you'll see the Indian/Asian poplulation at close to 85% or more. I'm not kidding. Statan Park on Spicewood Springs is full of California plates and it almost seems as if it's an Indian exclusive apartment complex. Most of them can't afford the homes in that area, so they squeeze their families into these small 2 bedrooms apartments so they can send their kids to the schools in that area. It's VERY common.

Can anyone tell me which apartment complex(es) are good for Desi/Indian community in Round Rock area?
We are new to Round Rock and are looking at various places. So far Crystal Creek, Steeplechase stood out to our needs a bit.
Do let me know.

I find Bombay Bistro to be merely ok, nice setting but the food isn't that spicy (maybe toned down for American palettes) and the flavour isn't what I prefer.
Sarovar and Shalimar are good and nice and spicy.
Clay Pit is ok, better than Bombay Bistro but not fantastic.
I'm from the Caribbean and so have a tolerance for spices which is probably why I don't like the places that tone it down and Americanise it.

I had the veggie samosas at the Clay pit and they were FANTASTIC! My chicken tikka masala, though? Not so much. The place was a bit odd... very echo-y.
For my mango lassi fix, I go to the Whip In (right along 35, south of the river). They have some Indian food (which I haven't eaten) but no samosas
I've been planning on going to the place on Riverside (Indian Kitchen?) but just haven't made it there yet.
