Y'all have been so helpful thus far in our move to the Austin area. I'm visiting next week to look at neighborhoods, schools (elementary for now). We'll be working south (San Marcos, Kyle) and need to be within 30 minutes. I'm going to check out the Buda/Driftwood area, plus Onion Creek and Shady Hollow. We've ruled out Wimberley because we don't want to be that far from Austin. We are open to both public or private schools, again within a decent commute of where we'll be living. Any other neighborhoods/schools I should check out while I'm there?

I would not try to look at more areas than what you have already mentioned. Properly screening those areas should take up most of your time on your visit. You will be traveling away from Austin in the mornings so your commute should be quick.
