I don't understand the map posted by CptnRn which is marked "Hurricane risk map". Are Iowa, western Minnesota, and the eastern Dakotas really at a "high" risk for hurricanes, while Florida is only at average risk? Clarification, please.

It is really not that hard to read. Only the areas in colored bubbles are at any risk at all. They do not include Iowa, Minnesota, or the Dakotas.

My map reading skills are just fine, thanks, as are my eyes. If the phrase "Hurricane risk map" beneath the map with the blue bubbles refers in fact to the web link alongside it (this is not altogether clear), what is the map with the blue "bubbles" about?

I think that is just part of the graphic with the tornado map above. You have to follow the link to see the hurricane risk map.

Severe thunderstorms and hail are more of an occurance than tornadoes. Though, that tornado did about wipe Jarrell off the map in the 90's.

Hurricanes are not an issue unless one comes in and sits on top of us, dumping major rain as a TS.

I see, yes the graphic you were looking at is a Flood Risk map, that label apparently got left off when I linked to the image.

You have to click on the link to the Hurricane Risk Map to see it.
