Maybe compared to some parts of rural Texas. But not compared to Houston/Dallas.... I'm sure Houston is the most international city in the state, even has a real Chinatown etc. Think of the Austin-Houston comparison similar to an Albany-NYC comparison in that sense.... except not quite as dramatic.

And rural Texas can't really be compared to the cities.

Hi...sorry for not responding to some of the later posts sooner. Thank you again for some real good advice. I started looking on Realtor.com to find rentals and I had more success. If there is anymore advice that will make our transition easy, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again!

I moved to Austin from Medford, NJ in 1996. I have also lived in Round Rock and currently in Cedar Park. All of the areas you mention have a slightly different characteristic that different people will prefer. I have lived in Cedar Park now for over 6 years and it has been amazing to see how much has changed.

Just in the past 5 or 6 years since I have moved here we have a brand new high school and elementary schools built that are less than 2 miles away from us. Also plenty of new shopping centers and easy access to shopping and even Downtown Austin is not very far away.

I do at times miss New Jersey. Most of my family still lives there but I am trying to get them down here. I miss being able to drive about 2 hours during the winter to go skiing. I actually miss the snow but I am happy to give that all up for the great weather we have down here. Granted it gets very, very hot during the peak summer months of June, July and August but that is a small price to pay for the great weather we have year round.

As was said the best thing to do is to take a look around and rent for a while so you can see if you do truly like the area. I really think you will like it down here but everybody is different. I also have a two year old so things like schools and crime ratings are very important to me. If you have any different questions I can answer for you please let me know.
