Default Dog Question

Hi
I'm moving to Austin in about 3 weeks from coastal California. I have a siberian husky. Obviously, Texas is the climate for these dogs...right. A couple of questions.
1) Suggestions on how I can keep her cool during the summer?
2) I want to have her do a couple of days of "doggie daycare" so she's not stuck in her crate every day during the week. I'll be living in NW Austin near the Domain. Any suggestions out there?
Thanks in advance

You might also look into some dog classes. The Zoom Room in Austin Dog Agility Training | Zoom Room overs indoor agility and obedience classes, and open gym, you can reserve a time for doggie practice inside.

There are a ton of dog options out here. Austin, Round Rock, and Georgetown are all very dog-friendly. Unfortunately I don't have any N. Austin recommendations for you. Good luck!

What type of housing you'll be in will help to tailor answers to your specific needs. Also, where will you be working? I only know of central Austin doggie day care, but if you're commuting to central Austin those might be possible. We have a house with a dog door, so I have recommendations for keeping cool but this might be a completely different housing situation than yours...

She'll likely do fine here (dogs that I'd thought absolutely wouldn't have surprised me, including our Great Pyrenees some years back). But you'll want to make sure, if she's outside, that she has shelter, and in the worst of the summer, you might want to set her up a mister system - it can be done pretty inexpensively.

Three are quite a few options for dogs - Austin in general is a very "doggy" town. I'm not personally familiar with the doggie day cares in that part of town, but my daughter used to live there some time back and I'll ask her about any recommendations for vets and such and they'll be able to send you in the right direction for something good and convenient.

Very Dog friendly here.
I'm in North West Austin, and there are plenty of Dog Day Care places.
Including either Petco, or Petland, I get them confused

however I always see someone playing with a bunch of dogs in there.
Looking like they are having fun.
I want that job ;-)

Great. Thank you all very much for the information! I really appreciate all of your help. One other thing, I do a lot of hiking with my dog, is it common for people to have their pets vaccinated against rattlesnake venom? Yes, I'm overprotective...

I agree with Mudpuppies - we get our dogs groomed there and their daycare seems to be very comprehensive. They break up by size/temperment and then they even have some dogs stay up front if they are more loners. They have cameras so parents can check in and the amount of hours that they do play time - I don't recall the exact amount by I remember being impressed. The only reason we don't do boarding/daycare with them is because our dogs like each other and that's about it (and people, just not other animals). So I don't think that we would really benefit from the extra cost, they are a bit more expensive than our vet for boarding per dog/day. It can add up if you are gone for a week.

I woudl ask the vet about the snake bite thing. I've heard of a few dogs with snakebites but this usually happened in the backyard.

Our border collie isn't vaccinated for snakebite, but now that we know there is one available (saw a news story about it), we're pondering having it done because he loves to chase and nose around in things on his long walks and we're worried about him coming across one someday.
