Uh, you really don't think that is the only reason for people to visit downtown do you? How about people wanting to be a bit touristy? Tour the Capital, go to the Bob Bullock Museum, just walk around downtown to take a look, et cetera. Concerning parking garages: they're too creepy for me.

Somewhere in the proposal was to also limit each metered parking spot to 3 hours.

That is what most people are doing there at night. The capital visitor center closes at 5PM. The capital closes at 8PM on weekends. The Bob Bullock Museum costs $9/adult to visit. However, if you just want to walk around that is free, so it will only cost you a couple of bucks to park. Gas to drive there from Hutto will cost most people more then the parking.

I can only wonder how much money the city is going to make during special events like SXSW and ACL once the metered parking is extended to weeknights and Saturdays!
