I wasn't aware of the information and data available in the link below and thought it was helpful. It's about figuring out how much watering is actually needed per week based upon local rainfall, temperature and transpiration. We set the sprinklers on a schedule (when it hasn't rained) rather than base watering decisions on a formula for the week.

This seems like a better way to go about it:

I like this spreadsheet better. It's from the Water Wise Council of Texas. If you are really into numbers and take the time to measure each zone, the spreadsheet will tell you how long to water each zone. It has saved me a lot of water.

Note: Rainfall at the top - I adjust that each year. When we are in a drought I put zero otherwise I use the average.

Trying to understand that web page. Is the last number in the blue line the amount of water they are recommending? The "E.T. Index"? In my case when I just visited there it reads:

Quote:
Total ET and Rainfall: 0.00" 0.87" 0.31"
So it appears to say we need to water only 0.31" to replenish what was lost in the last 5 days.

Nice charts, hopefully this isn't going to be another summer of simply watering enough that the grass doesn't burn out. I love a green lawn but it makes me and my wallet sick to waste so much water.
